Thanks to the kind person who suggested that I disable COM1 and/or COM2
in the CMOS settings. I disabled COM2 which led to my PnP 3COM USR 56k
V90 int. modem selecting COM 2 instead of the former COM 3. Still don't
know why USR is now producing jumperless modems, that depend on Windows
and PnP to make the selection automatically.
