In your reply do you mean reboot and close twice or were you referring to WinMe? (reboot and close down machine x2,)
I had a tech that worked on some of my software and when he got through my CD-ROM and Nero burner drive will not work so he did something to cause it. He tried fixing it (8 hours time) but couldn't get it going. I hope your suggestion will work but I need to know what you meant before I try it. Please advise.
Thanks,
William

Peggy,
I have had this happen to me before, try this
Switch off machine,
remove mains power lead,
remove case cover,
disconnect IDE, Power & Audio cables to cd drive.
replace cover and mains power cable,
reboot and close down machine x2,
disconnect mains power and remove cover,
reconnect IDE, Power & Audio cables to cd drive,
replace cover and mains power lead,
reboot machine and your cd drive will either appear as before or you will be asked for your windows cd then just follow the instructions on the screen.
hope this helps
Richard

Subject: [PCBUILD] CD-ROM gone
The Computer Lady recommended that I get in touch with you.
Don't ask me how, but I have managed to totally wipe-out my CD-ROM drive and my rewrite drive.
When I click on "My Computer", only my C drive and A drive appear.
Can someone please tell me how do I get back my CD drives? And preferably without losing all the information that is currently on my computer. When my husband surprised me with this computer (Compaq Presario), it can with WinME. Last fall I upgraded to WinXP Home.
Any help would be deeply appreciated. By the way, I am NOT computer smart (obvisiously, since I managed to wipe out my CD drive), so any help offered needs to be in "English", and not "computer".
Thank you- Peggy Plankis [log in to unmask]
