Jim, the first thing that comes to mind is to know WHY the doc. has
prescribed the Medrol? I was given a shot of Depomedrol many years ago for a very
severe allergic reaction, but I gather that your reaction was several years ago,
or have I misunderstood, and it was recent? While steroids are often given
to people suffering from other autoimmune diseases, and Celiac is an autoimmune
disease, the treatment is generally just abstention from gluten (and
sometimes dairy). Are you currently suffering an allergic reaction to something
else?

How did this doc. come to the conclusion that you are a Celiac? Have you
been eating gluten containing grains recently? Apthous ulcers in the mouth are
common among Celiacs, although I don't know that you have those. What was the
doctor's dx of the problem in your mouth? Do you have any other skin problems?

Subject: Newly Diagnosed Celiac Sprue

Ok, round three of the oral problem is happening. First one in 2002. Doct=
or said it was "nothing" and gave me lidocaine. Ended up in emergency room=
with my throat closed up. 2003 I avoid my doctor and go to my dentist. H=
e gives me Maalox and an antihistamine. Doesn't seem to help. After that =
bout was over, I did research and thought it was candida or thrush. New do=
ctor this morning says without hesitating that I have Celiac Sprue. He pre=
scribes the steroid Medrol (methylprednisolone) in tablet form and over the=
counter Anbesol.

Your opinion please. Should I take the Medrol?
