Two years ago I heard about a situation where the local historic window 
specialist was buying old wood sash from the vinyl replacement window 
guys to salvage the parts. A window replacement customer was told by the

vinyl window salesman as part of his schpeal that her sash were not 
worth anything and should be hauled to the dump. Later she learned that 
her old sash were actually sold, and took the window replacement outfit 
to court for permanently reducing the value of her house. The clincher 
in the case was that she went to the historic window specialist and 
bought back the old sash at their real value and had the receipt to 
demonstrate that value. Now the vinyl guys in that whole region make 
sure that all the old wood sash they rip out of houses are burned by the

end of the day, to destroy any lingering evidence of their bad acts.
