A Free "Hands On" Workshop

Sponsored by UMOS, Inc. in collaboration with the Wisconsin Hispanic Tobacco
Prevention Network, with funding from the WI. Division of Health
Workshop Purpose
Community Based Organizations, particularly minority groups, have been
targeted by tobacco companies as a means to advertise their products and
promote tobacco use. They provide significant donations and support to
non-profit organizations for community events and activities while subtlety
delivering their messages, especially to youth.
This workshop was designed to assist community based organizations in
developing fund raising efforts to replace donations made by tobacco
companies.
Who Should Attend the Workshop?
While this session is designed to provide fund raising skills targeted to
the Community Based Organizations to work on Tobacco related community
issues, this training focuses on fundraising skills which are applicable and
transferable for any CBO working on fundraising. Community or agency staff,
leaders, stakeholders, clients, volunteers, board members and interested
persons will benefit from this program.
About the Trainer
Mary Ann Borman, is the Director of Health Promotion/Disease Prevention at
UMOS, Inc. a community based agency founded in 1965. She has worked on
fundraising for community based organizations for over 40 years and has
obtained millions of dollars in grant monies through her grant writing
skills. She has taught Fund Raising & Grant Writing Skills workshops and
courses in the Department of Community Education and Extension Departments
at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Milwaukee Area Technical
College, and has raised funds for numerous programs and organizations on a
national level.
