Allergy desensitization isn't only an alternative medicine practice. It's
also done in conventional medicine by allergists & such. The major
difference between alternative treatment of allergies & conventional is the
breath & depth of emphasis. Alt. emphasizes food allergies/intolerances &
attributes many diverse ailments & symptoms to food allergies. Whereas
conventional medicine often only recognizes those allergic reactions that
are inhalent (hay fever or pet dander, etc.) or those that are life
threatening, such as peanut allergies, bee sting allergies, etc. If you
complain of diverse "brain type" reactions to foods, a conventional doctor
is likely to consider refering you to a psychiatrist, whereas a naturopath
or chiropractor will try to help you identify & eliminate the source of the
problem. That's one difference I've observed in my many years of working in
and being a patient of both alternative & conventional clinics. ~Valerie in
