I think disability related technologies tend not to get R&D dollars because
people without disabilities tend not to have a clue about what we may or may
not want/need.
One of the things I applaud the NFB for (and I'm not a member) is that it
invests money and other resources into the development of new technologies.
I think other organizations should do the same, and once a particular
technology seems viable, they can recruit celebrities to assist them in
promoting the need for further research and to raise money from congress and
other organizations.
The artificial muscle technology seems to be a good fit. with braille
displays. I hope they work out.
