I'm guessing you're trying to perform a complete system backup. I think
the dialog you're getting is referring to a bootable floppy disk that
you'd use during a complete system restore. I either quickly attach a
USB floppy drive to get the recovery diskette or I choose a different
backup option, such as backing up all my data or customizing what gets
backed up. I use Windows XP's backup and recovery utility all the time,
and I'm always backing up to my local hard drive, another internally
attached hard drive or a USB connected hard drive.
I looked around for an accessible backup utility, and I was willing to
pay for one, but I never found one. After reading up on the web on how
to use the backup and restore facility that you get for free with
Windows, and experimenting around with it a bit, it's actually quite
accessible and surprisingly powerful. It's the backup utility I use now.
