Hi all on vicug-l and, all at Freedom Scientific.
Harry here. Well, remember when I posted to the vicug-l list, and told of my jfw version 8.0 not speaking for 10 minutes after the windows music on my Dell laptop? Well folks, it got fixed, but here's the thing that wasn't good. I had to wait for sighted help for 24 hours, while sighted folks can fix their own computers because they can read the screen.
Folks, this is not good enough.
So, let's all sit down and put our heads together. Jaws is one heck of a great screen reader, but it *NEEDS* to talk on a computer, the moment a computer is turned on. Sighted folks can see that screen, and tell you what's being said on the screen, and no blind person can do that, unless, maybe, mac users can, but I don't even know if they can.
Now I'm not a programmer, and I don't want to be one, but darn it all, it's time this issue get solved once and for all.
there should be some code to make Jaws work on a computer, the moment the pc is turned on. The pack mate does, the moment it's turned on.
So, to those of you at Freedom Scientific, or, to those of you who write scripts, get something together so jaws speaks the moment a computer is turned on.
I'm sending this to the vicug-l list, because there are programmers on this list as well.
It's even ok with me, if any of you want to send my post to all the jfw lists for Jaws users as well.
But let's put our heads together, because it's the 21st century, and this inaccessibility of pcs from the moment it's turned on is enough.
take care,
Harry in Michigan
