Dear Dedy,
>Scrumpy is awful :-)
At least it comes with its own supply of fibre <g>

>from the farmer at Borough market in London... this is no good for you I
>know but I'm sure you could get your hands on some good stuff from the
>west country via mail order etc.
I used to get naturally distilled poteen direct from the farmers in
Ireland! If you think Scrumpy is distasteful, you should compare it to
this stuff…
As for cider not being good for me, I think that everyone should have at
least one vice, and as I’m squeaky clean of all the others, I need a
weakness to feel human ;-)
There was some talk of re-introducing French cider apple trees here in
order to recreate the traditional drink. There are lots of old granite
cider presses around still around. I must follow that up.
>PS -- can you disclose the meaning of 'Slainte'? TIA
Mmm, it means, literally, ‘health’, or ‘good health to you’. I’m including
the A fada this time. Try this website for a few more variations
on ‘cheers!’

Ancestrally, I’m half Irish and half French. I love all kinds of Celtic
music and play the bodhran. Sláinte has long been a part of my vocabulary
in Irish sessions ;-)
