Hmmm -- fluoride treatments/sealants? Not that I know of. Just plain old
cleaning as far as I know. But I recall very vividly how our dentist
seemed surprised that my brother didn't get cavities after not brushing
regularly (barely at all!), never flossing, eating sweets (he was obese as
a child) and yet not one cavity. There was lots of plaque and tarter, but
no decay. I don't place much faith in fluoride treatments for cavity
prevention. My hubby is 50 and uses fluoride toothpaste, brushes
regularly, flosses and picks regulary, swishes fluoride rinses in his mouth
and does get fluoride treatments at the dentist yet he is still getting
cavities!!! He eats candy at nearly every meal, but so did my brother.
Maybe if one has a genetic predisposition to get cavities, then changing
one's diet may reduce the frequency of caries -- but that's a big "may".
On the other hand, I've seen how some people eat what they want and just do
not get cavities. By the way, although, I generally eat low carb now, this
was certainly not always the case. I even went through a vegetarian phase
many years ago and was eating copious amounts of sugars and starch, yet no
cavities.
