We are disabled. We are certainly not dead. Although given past
experiences with certain agencies, if the had their way would have us locked up and
have no rights other than what they feel we should have.
I know of several women who I have known from Sunbeam who have several
children and living long lives with their husbands. It is all in how others put
their two cents into the situation that makes a marriage that involves
disabled adults either work or fall apart.
In my life been through FAR TOO MUCH drama involving my daughters with
Juvenile Court. It's been having to prove I'm competent, good father and capable
of raising a baby. I've had other relatives of Patty's mother who try to
pull I'm not being a good father because I take Patty to sport events like
football, baseball and basketball. I just did things that I never did when I was
little. Back then my mother and father didn't have a car. My older brothers
didn't want to be bothered taking me anywhere.
I've had to deal with Juvenile Court with Susan because someone at her
hospital tried to claim that Susan wasn't mine. A social worker who felt that two
disabled people who weren't married shouldn't raise a baby. Susan's mom was
sterilized before. I know because I was there when they did the procedure
seven years ago. That was brought on by an agency who did not like I was
seeing one of their clients. This agency wants to control every aspect of their
clients to the point of smothering them. There is a certain level of respect
each individual earns as you get older. There are some conditions no adult
should have to endure. This agency did not like me because I think for myself
and operate on my own terms. There is a lot more to this but my hand is
getting tired.
For everything I've done up to now, I believe something good should have
been earned. I hope this year the powers that be will be kind to me and the one
I love.
