I played there as a kid there when they built it (the Artificial
Insemination Experimental Facility on Judd Falls Road), back when the big
arched roof place
across the road was a brand new roller skating rink, long before it became a
bowling alley. Ahhhh, history ! We used to hang on the 2" steel pipe
fences and watch the very confined and contained bulls be walked around on
something that looked like a single post rotary clothes line to keep them
alive.   As little kids, we always hoped to see something special there;
like we knew there was something special about the place because of the name
and the way our parents wouldn't really tell us what was going on, and the
way they lowered their voices and smiled in a special way when talking about
the new facility with their friends, and saying to us only that the big
expensive bulls were there to "perform their task". As a treat, the lab
workers at the place would give us red and blue balloons from the deep
freeze storage boxes, used to keep semen samples from breaking when shipped.
Once we got some plain ones not filled with air, but the lab people suddenly
got worried and said we should not have those and took them back. We
wondered what the sea men were all about because there were not any ships in
sight around there and we never saw anyone in uniform.

It never smelled bad then. Are you sure the stink wasn't from the pig
barns down the road? Now that was SMELLY !
