Job Title:  Alternate Format Production Specialist
Classification:  Administrative Analyst/Specialist - Non Exempt

Salary Range:  $1,473 - $2,356 per month. This is a 20 hours per week,
fiscal year renewal position to end on or before 06/30/05 with a
possibility of a renewal if program needs exist.

Job Summary:
Responsible for converting printed materials into electronic text
(e-text), Braille, digital audio text, large print, and tactile graphics
to accommodate students with disabilities. Evaluates print materials for
the best conversion method. Prepares print materials for electronic file
conversion. Scans and recognizes (OCR) print materials into electronic
files. Edits and coordinates editing of the electronic files. Organizes
edited electronic files as per the established file structure. Performs
quality control checks. Copies completed electronic files to portable
and stationary storage media. Labels and maintains an archive and
database of completed alternate format titles. Maintains workflow
tracking and archiving records to generate program reports. Other duties
as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree and/or equivalent experience and education
sufficient to provide the knowledge skills, and abilities necessary to
successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position as
described above. Strong general computer skills (Windows), Strong skills
in Word, Excel, Access, Power Point. Strong computer imaging (scanning)
and computer image editing skills. Strong optical character recognition
(OCR) software skills. Good professional publishing software skills.
Good digital audio text software production skills. Good Braille
translation and tactile graphics software skills. Good database
management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to consistently produce accurate high quality work. Ability to
critically analyze work to be performed. Ability to select appropriate
production methods and formulate efficient production plans. Ability to
coordinate production timeline and resources within a fluctuating
workflow environment. Ability to organize and maintain production
schedule and consistently meet deadlines. Ability to learn new
technologies and production methods. Ability to think creatively in new
situations. Ability to coordinate workflow among several contract
service providers. Ability to work under occasionally stressful
conditions. Ability to create written reports. Ability to multi-task.
Entry to this classification requires fundamental written and oral
communication skills, including a sound foundation in English grammar,
spelling, and punctuation. Ability to understand standard office
procedures. Reliable, punctual, dedicated, and committed. Enjoys this
type of work. High attention to detail. Works well with others, alone,
and as part of a team. Flexible with changes to production methodologies
and procedures.
