BREAKING NEWS:MINISTER KABA BAJO SAYS INDEPENDENT NEWSPAPER JOURNALISTS WILL FACE CHARGES!!!!
Gambia’s Foreign Minister Lamin Kaba Bajo, says the detained Independent Newspaper journalists Madi Ceesay and Musa Saidykhan will be charged, but failed to reveal what charges the detained journalists will face in court. The Minister who is currently on an official visit in Cuba told the BBC Network Africa that “the government has no reason to arrest the two journalists if they have not done anything wrong.”
KABA BAJO SAYS INDEPENDENT JOURNALISTS
WILL BE CHARGED!!!
Minister Bajo maintains that the leading journalists will face the due process of the law. “We will charge them. We are working on it. They were arrested based on facts. The due process of the law will take its course. Journalists are not above the law. The government has no reason to arrest them if they have not done anything wrong.” he insisted.
The Minister also denied that the alleged foiled coup story was intended to crackdown on the opposition and the private media. “If it was meant for the opposition, then they would have been behind bars by now. Can you tell me how many opposition leaders are detained?” he asked.
His BBC interview followed concerns raised by the Reporters Without Borders and other media watch dogs on the plight of the detained journalists. The arrest of Madi Ceesay and Musa Saidykhan has been locally and internationally condemned. It is seen as a witch hunt against the private media, which suffered all kinds of persecution under Jammeh’s rule.
