Gambia's Foreign Minister Visits Havana
HAVANA (PL) - Gambia's Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Lamin Karba Bajo, has arrived in Havana on an official visit invited by Cuba's Foreign Affairs Ministry (MINREX).
In his first visit to Cuba, Karba Bajo was welcomed by his Cuban counterpart Felipe Perez Roque and will fullfil a broad working agenda that comprises talks with MINREX and other government officials plus visits to historical, cultural, educational and scientific sites.
His stay, which coincides with the arrival of his country愀 Health and Interior ministers, aims at strengthening friendship and cooperation links, plus paying tribute to Cuban international fighters who fell for the independence of African nations.
Cuba and Gambia established diplomatic relations on May 19, 1979. This led for 20 Gambian students to study in the island.
A Cuban medical team is currently aiding that African nation and contributing to train health staff at the Health Sciences Faculty of Banjul, the capital.
