Yes, HP has a new scanner ... HP Scanjet 4670 ... out that will scan on
it's side, and is less then a inch thick, plus it is transparent so you
can see what it is you're scanning.

They also have a desktop version that can easily be stored on it's side,
and then placed flat to scan.

I am thinking about buying one of the flat desktop versions myself, which
can be purchased at Staples for $130. I just haven't decided whether a slim
transparent scanner is a good idea, or just a "cool" idea. Has anybody used
one of these?
