Marenah, who was with the President at the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, is said to have been linked with the abortive coup, which had shaken the National Army. Sources say the President was upset about Daba’s failure to detect the coup ahead of time. Other theories also suggested that the coup was leaked by an insider at the GAF head quarters who was heard saying that some thing imminent was going to hit the Presidency. The Freedom Newspaper, gathered that the coup information was intercepted by the certain state guard operatives, who informed Jammeh that there was something cooking at the GAF head quarters.
Meanwhile, sources hinted that a new NIA deputy has been named in the pesron of Ngorr Secka, a former body guard to deposed President Jawara. Ngorr, also a former footballer was appointed alongside with Harry Sambou, a one time Director at the agency.
Well placed sources say the NIA will likely faced some restructuring in days to come, as Daba’s loyalists working at the agency will be moved to other areas within the country, pending the determination of the coup investigations. Daba Marenah a native of Kaur Janneh Kunda served the defunct National Security Services (NSS) under Sir Dawda’s rule. The state is yet to file any charges against the coup suspects. It is reported that statements were obtained from them by the police.
While the government claimed that the former Army Chief Ndure Cham was on the run, well placed sources say Ndure was in the hands of the authorities. The source said Ndure’s safety is of concerned to his family, as he might as well be possibly killed by his captives who rushed with a statement to say that he was on the run. Sources close to the GNA said Ndure was being pursued by heavily armed soldiers. His whereabouts now remains mysterious, but our sources are not convinced that the man was on the run.
