Well, it should be, you plug it in to the computer, it sees it and when you
put the floppy in it would find the driver, to change com port number, go in
your control panel, then to system, control bat to hardware, hit spacebar on
that, then arrow to com ports or command LPT, right arrow on that, see what
com number is there, make sure the adapter is plugged in to the computer
while doing this, to change the com port number, tab to properties and look
around, you'll find it. That's how it works with me on XP home,  part of
your problem could be you went to radio shack, but you can try that first.
I'm not sure what brand mien is but I got it at www.amazon.com and actually
have 2 of them, 1 for my laptop and 1 for this desktop and both work fine
though they do install on what ever com number they want and I have to bring
them back in to a useable number.
