You can do almost everything under the dos prompt, and windows 98, because
their is still a config.sys and autoexec.bat files.
Scandisk can be challenging, if their are to many open programs, and I
think booting from dos gives you a better job, because windows files aren't
in use.
You can also clean out virusses that attach themselves to the windows
startup if you have a dos virus checker, and boot the computer with a write
protected floppy disk.
I can load stuff high in windows 98 dos boxes, but haven't had any luck
with that under windows XP.
Their is still 532 k of memory at the dos prompt after vocal-eyes has
loaded, so who cares anyway?
