Our otherwise bright 6 year old daughter is in kindergarten. She is having
trouble retaining information and is acting out in class. We adopted our
daughter from the Ukraine at the age of 3 1/2 years. Two months prior to
adopting our daughter she was diagnosed with celiac disease. Because
daughter suffered from severe malnutriciation and terror of medical
personnel our pediatrician suggested we not do any unnecessary testing. We
have maintained a gluten free diet for the past 2 1/2 years and our daughter
has thrived. However because of the recent events at school I am concerned
that there may be hidden gluten still in my child's diet. We have the
necessary forms documenting our daughter has celiac disease on file with the
school. I have requested a 504 meeting which is being scheduled in the next
few days. We need to rule out the possibility of hidden gluten before
totally focusing on any possible learning disabilities. We live in South
Carolina and would appreciate any input from parents who have been down this
path as to which tests and labs they have found to be most reliable. Thank
you.
