>I have been unsuccesful in making my own mayo as suggested in the Paleo DIet book and was wondering what everyone thought of the Hellmans Mayo. I have been on Paleo eating for one week and have so far just made my own salad dressings from oils and garlic and this has been fine, but I plan to have tuna fish tomorow (I know this is not strictly paleo either) and want mayo with it. I checked the ingredients and the primary ones seem fine (oil, water, egg). The main problem seems to be that it has a bit of vinager and sugar in it. I know it is a processed food, but does anyone else eat it? I have cut dairy, but am finding living without mayo hard.

The problem is the oil. Is it soybean oil? corn oil? cottonseed oil
(worst of all).
All of these oils are seed oils, very high on the Omega 6-s and low in
O-3, and
cottonseed comes from the most pesticided crop on the planet, cotton.
Probably you can't find olive oil mayo, but it's the Best! (I make it
myself in my little
food processor. Pale yellow-green, very flavorful.) Not so bad would be
safflower.

Canola is problematical: nutritionally it's pretty good, but it's nearly
all GMO and heavily
processed, and bears little resemblance to any food eaten prior to 50
years ago.
(I'm a nutritional Luddite.)

The more expensive the mayo, the less likely it is to be contaminated
with sugar
(a cheap filler material). Ray really doesn't like vinegar, but some of
us think it's
not all that bad, especially in small quantities. I haven't eaten
commercial mayo
in years, and could hardly face it after getting used to my own lemon
juice/EV olive oil.

BTW I don't know any reason why tuna would not be paleo, except that
you'd need
an awfully big "sharp stick" to subdue it (also a big boat).
