Creating and Repurposing More Accessible Content
The lesson topics below reflect the course as it hs been taught for a
couple years. But there are a number of important events related to e-books
and e-publishing recently that requires
rethinking the course topics and lessons.
The explosion of commercial e-books and e-readers is changing the world of
books and publishers. Currently, these are starting to involve more
accessibility in their products. The
establishment of the EPUB3 standard brings e-book standards closer to the
DAISY standards. The lessons below will be modified in consultation between
the instructor and the course
members, and will include information about commercial e-readers and
commercial e-books.
Lesson 1: Creating Structured Documents with Word
Lesson 2: Creating Accessible Content in PDF
Lesson 3: DAISY: Digital Accessible Information System
Lesson 4: Repurposing to HTML, Audio & Braille:
Registration is $350 or $280 for people from overseas or for Annual Webinar
Members.

Barrier-free Information Technology
Barrier-free Information Technology is designed to guide an institution in
making both its computer and information technology systems fully
accessible to its users with disabilities.
digitized information is display independent meaning that it can be input
and output in ways that make it available to all users regardless of their
abilities. Schools are becoming more
concerned about providing texts in alternative formats, and the course will
describe several different format options and give tips on creating
documents in formats such as Word, PDF,
PowerPoint, Web pages and DAISY.

Lesson 2: What Is Adaptive Technology? (Computer Input/Output Problems and
Solutions)
Lesson 3: Supportive Computer Applications for Users With Disabilities
Lesson 5: Creating and Locating Alternative Media
Lesson 6: Providing Support for People with Hearing Impairments
Lesson 7: Access Issues of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)
Lesson 8: Using Accessible IT to Enable the Library to Serve the Former
