My MIL cannot have gluten, so I didn't want either of my kids
having wheat till 1 year. We just didn't do teething biscuits.
It's no great loss, really.
My youngest is 20 months now, so it's hard to remember, but
I believe I let them chew on raw carrots and apples (under
close supervision -- a new tooth can shave off a piece that
might choke them). I also went through a lot of wheat-free
oatios (I know you may want to avoid oats too but my MIL
can have oats, so that was easier for us.)
Crackers, teething biscuits, dry cereal, cooked pasta -- so
many finger and teething foods are wheat. We just worked around
it -- it turned out to be pretty easy. And since both my kids
nursed well past a year I wasn't so worried about what they were
getting from their food. We also saved cows milk (including
yogurt) and egg white till after a year. That sounds awfully
restrictive, but at the time it wasn't that bad.
