Thanks to all who responded to my query about experiences with nausea.

I'm glad I posted the question. Lots of folks have sent their
experiences and I'm beginning to understand that even this low-grade,
ongoing nausea can be a symptom of ingesting something I'm reacting to,
despite the fact that I'm being extremely careful to be gluten free. For
example, I noticed I was feeling no nausea at all before breakfast this
morning, then felt it come on - but subtly - when I ate walnuts. What
I've learned from everyone's responses reinforces what I have found to
be a continuing lesson, since being diagnosed celiac: I am cleaning up
and getting better in cycles. I'll think I've got it down, then I'll
find it necessary to become even stricter in my eating habits. But as I
do, the rewards make the sacrifice worthwhile.

In short, it seems there's a lot of nausea out there and a lot of
different interpretations/causes.

Here's a summary of the responses I received:

* (One person found the dust from her husband's non-gf breakfast
cereal made her nauseous.) Also, consider whether you may have picked up
a new intolerance. Soy is a good one to consider, if you eat alot of
soy products now that you are gf. At last resort, keep a notebook of
everything that comes in contact with you and compare the ingredients
when you get sick.

* My nausea was a symptom of Diabetes.

* Nausea is one of the frequent symptoms I get when I've had
gluten, along with dizziness, headache and stomach pain. Ginger or
ginger tea helps with nausea. And another good one: sucking on a lemon.
Try lemon tea. Chamomile might also help.

* I found an effective drug free treatment at my local drug
store. I think they are called SEA BANDS or something like that. They
are little elastic bands that fit snugly on the wrists with a little
round plastic button that presses against the accupuncture site that
controls nausea.

* Nausea is a symptom of stroke, too, so a neurological
connection is not a far-off idea. hope this is not the case for you,
but some people with celiacs also have a no-dairy diet (casein-free) as
well as gf. there is a connection, as the partially digested casein
proteins (i.e. peptides) are very similar in chemical make-up to wheat
peptide protein strings. according to some research at deldhi-forums,
these are believed to cause some neurological symptoms for celiacs.

* Cross contamination maybe? . There are vitamins marked
wheat/gluten free .You might need to stop all dairy

* I've been GF for 6 1/2 years now and still deal with bouts of
nausea - some worse than others; sometimes accompanied with diarrhea and
sometimes not. I have yet to link it to anything I've eaten.

* If we accidentally get gluten either through vitamins or food,
nausea and vomiting is usually the first symptom.

* (One person found pectin was the cause of nausea): I had onsets
of nausea that would last about 2 hours and then I would be very weak.
I always became dizzy before the nausea appeared. After many many times
this happened---I connected it to eating raw apples and peaches.

* I go through bouts with Nausea as well. Some mild some severe.
You're doing the right thing with the process of elimination.. One time
I found that it was indeed the multi vitamin I was taking. There was a
hidden gluten source in it. I

* Suggest you ask your questions at this other excellent site:

* (This person feels it is related to an inner ear problem): I
usually interpret dizziness as feeling nauseated. Have you tried
Antivert (prescription) Bonine (same drug on the shelf), or Dramamine
with active ingredient Meclizine (2 kinds of Dramamine now)? These do
help me, and the Bonine dissolves under your tongue so it does not
contribute to a really upset stomach.

* This was a main symptom when I was diagnosed in Oct 2002. I
still have problems with it after going gluten free and now I'm on an
even more strict diet that excludes all grains (potatos, rice and even
corn) and all sugars and processed foods. The new diet has helped a lot
with the nausea and diarrhea I was still having. If it's mild sometimes
baking soda and water helps but when it's bad I take Phenergan which
just knocks me out till it passes.

* I have this problem with intermittent nausea as well. The
doctors have been unable to to determine why, migraine or GI cause.
Honest Tea make a decaffeinated. ice tea with ginger in it. It helps
tremendously.

* (Several people mentioned nausea as a reaction to eating dairy.
One said Lactaid, purchased over the counter, may help. )

* I am gluten intolerant and occasionally have nausea that lasts
for several days. I discovered that, for me, it was a form of migraine
headache (no pain, just nausea.) If I am under stress the nausea is
relentless. Accupunture treatments work miracles.

* I had nausea for years until going gluten free. Now I only get
it occasionally

* You could look into the possibility of gall bladder issues.
