The following was in a local newspaper a couple of days ago...other than
St. Louis as the dateline, there was no reference to source. The article
is enough to make a person want to stay paleo! I know it encourages me
to cheat a lot less!!

MONSANTO ENDS WORK ON ALTERED WHEAT

Genetically engineered corn and soybeans appear in thousands of
processed foods, from salad dressing to ice cream. But a leading biotech
company decided Monday that the world is not ready for biotech wheat.
Monsanto Co. is ending eight years of research devoted to developing
a more easily tended variety of wheat by splicing the crop with genes
from soil bacteria, a petunia plant and a cauliflower virus.
The biotech company had hoped to introduce its Roundup Ready wheat
next spring. The grain is genetically engineered to resist Monsanto's
popular weed killer Roundup so farmers can spray fields without harming
their crop.
