This reminds me of a problem we had with our hydropower turbines up in
Ashland, New Hampshire. The generators and gearboxes were filled with oil
(to prevent water from leaking in--they were underwater) and as the oil
heated up it started flowing up through the cables and dripping out in the
electrical panels, making a mess.

So we pulled the turbines (yours truly on the wrenches in the water in the
winter) and took them back to a warehouse. We went out and bought two fruit
cakes (it was winter) in metal cans. We then potted the terminals in the
generators using the metal cans as a reservoir to hold epoxy (gave the
fruit cakes to the guy who let me use his wet suit). Problem solved.

Thankfully the water we're dealing with now is not inside the
conductors like the oil was...
