I don't have a scientific explanation, but when I trained for my first
marathon in college, I was plagued by "runners trots"; in other words,
diarrhea and severe stomach cramping.  I ate a diet of mostly breakfast
cereals, pasta, and bread.  During my second marathon training, I did eat
some more meat, but I noticed that if I switched to rice, I did not
experience any stomach cramping.  Now, this is very different than CAD, but
I think the side effects of things such as wheat are much greater than of
rice, at least in my experience.
