Tea good for bones in women

British researchers have found that older female tea drinkers have a 5%
greater mean bone mineral density than non-tea drinkers. They equate this to
a 10% to 20% decline in fracture risk. The researchers took skeletal
measurements of 1,256 English women aged 65-76 of whom 1,134 were tea
drinkers. The researchers speculate that it is the presence of isoflavonoids
in tea, which have a weak estrogenic effect, which is creating this
beneficial effect. The study appeared in a recent issue of the American
Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
