I wanted to explain how I am trying to help myself with diet - after
quitting gluten it seems one may be left with an immune system with very
ruffled feathers, reacting to LOTS OF THINGS in an EXTREME way. Which can
make a person very sick, as I have been more more than 2 years.

What i'm trying is more or less the Ornish diet. This is very lowfat,
with no highfat foods except a few fishoil capsules, and vegan except for
eggwhites.

It generally tends to turn down the immune system. I haven't looked into
this very thoroughly, but for example there was a study in atheletes - who
often eat very lowfat diets - about this kind of diet making them more
vulnerable to infection - i.e. turning down the immune system. (if it
doesn't make one catastrophically vulnerable but turns down the immune
system enough to moderate allergies and intolerance reactions, this would
be very nice). Why - one reason may be that it has very little fat, which
are the precursors of some of the inflammatory molecules that play an
important part in immune reactions. Also, this kind of diet does include
fish oil supplements, the EPA/DHA in the fish oil generates
anti-inflammatory molecules.

I haven't yet found out whether this will help, because I've been
sloooowly getting over carbohydrate intolerance, Sloooowly reducing my fat
intake, and I haven't yet gotten to that little fat yet. It might help a
little bit, but not enough. But, it's generally a healthy diet, and I
really like it - it causes high levels of serotonin, which makes people
feel relaxed and cheerful.

There are immunosuppressant drugs, perhaps they would help me with my misery
if these natural methods don't.

Laura
