I installed the free upgrade of XP home in my wife's Inspiron and it did
pretty much the same thing. Freeze up missing operating system and so on. What I
had forgotten was to install an XP video driver. I also had to upgrade the
BIOS. After that all worked well. Oh yes, it just had 128mb ram.
