Hi All,

About 2 years ago I was diagnosed with the parasite blastocystis hominis.
While most conventional doctors will tell you that this parasite is common
and don't want to treat it unless you have diarrhea (which I don't), I would
like to get rid of the little critters. I have digestive and other problems
and can't help but think that the parasite is at least a contributing
factor. I am thinking toxic waste from the parasite circulating via blood
can't be good - no?

So far I have tried several herbal programs one of which lasted 60 days and
I am too embarressed to admit how much money I spent on it. I also went
through 2 cleanses during which I drank veggie juice, water, tea, and rice
protein shakes and got a colonic every single day. Every time I get retested
the parasite still shows up.

My doctor, as most conventional doctors, suggested a 10-day course of
Flagyl - an antibiotic for those of you who are not familiar with it. I have
resisted taking Flagyl one, because it's obviously not paleo, two, I do not
like taking drugs of any kind, and three, I have heard horror stories about
the side effects. I have also read that most strains of blasto have become
resistant to Flagyl and it won't help. Others have said that it DOES get rid
of them as long as you take two 10-day courses with a 1 week break because
blasto has a 2 week gestation period.

At this point I am frustrated and worn out. I am tempted to just take the
Flagyl while supplementing heavily with probiotics, but at the same time
just the thought of taking it scares me.Has anybody here dealt with
eliminating parasites, particularly blastocystis hominis, and if so, what
course of action did you take? From a paleo standpoint - what can I do? Did
hunter-gatherers deal with parasites and if so, what would they have done?

As always, any feedback and opinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Kristina
