Hi all
About a year ago the On Line Library went live with a few dozen books in
e-text format for reading by screen-reader or e-braille or screen-magnifier.
It now has nearly a thousand titles. Recently, a lot of work has been done
with the SpeakOn program to make it easy to get books and have the computer
read them to you almost instantly. It's brilliant!
I've been playing with the system using an infra-red numeric keypad and can
sit away from the PC and get a book in a few seconds, then listen - magic!
SpeakOn turns the computer into a sort of Talking Book machine - I'm using
the Daniel voice which is pretty good.
The On Line Library is free to any VI living in the EU region - details at
