I looked back to the first time you had this problem. 09/04???
(Is this the same problem?)
Number one is the correct "action", but the results are not "OK".
I would Boot with the Seagate CD and have it test the HD.
AFTER the Seagate diagonistics say the drive is "OK", I would
wipe the drive with the Seagate CD, (write ZEROS to the entire
drive - AKA a "low level format"...) And then try again...
A failed XP installation (at the wrong point) can trash the drive
until it is cleaned properly by third party utilities. I personally use
the very old IBM utility "WIPE" or "ZAP", but anything that kiils
the MBR and all the XP stuff is "good enough".
"Something" gets on the drive that will block more attempts at
an install.
Disclaimer: This assumes that the drive is setup properly in the BIOS
and the jumpers, cables are good, etc... (It could be "any" of that too...)
