Minnesotans, Your Phone calls are NEEDED TODAY to SAVE TANF from being
returned to the General Fund - The message: "Use the TANF Reserve in 2000
to Help Working Families. Do Not Use it to Replace Existing State Funding."
--------- Background Info.
-----------------------------------------------------------
EMERGENCY ACTION ALERT: Governor Ventura will be meeting with his cabinet on
Tuesday of this week to decide whether to use the $164 million TANF reserve
in the 2000 legislative session. On the line is whether money will be
accessible this session for childcare assistance; elimination of the $100
housing penalty; workforce development; serving MFIP participants with
multiple barriers; prevention programs, transportation assistance. For
those of you who have not already done, please call the Governor's office on
Monday (or Tuesday morning at the latest). The message: "Use the TANF
Reserve in 2000 to Help Working Families. Do Not Use it to Replace Existing
State Funding." The phone number for the Governor's office is 651-296-3391.
You will probably have to leave a message. Make sure to ask for the
Governor's position on this issue and to give your name and address. We
have already gotten a lot of calls in to the Governor's office. If we are
to affect the outcome of Tuesday's cabinet meeting it is crucial that we
flood his office with calls on Monday. For further information, call Jason
Walsh on at 651-642-1904 x29.
* Please relay the same message to Pam Perry Weaver in Gov. Ventura's
Office 651-296-0013
