Chocoholics are really wonderful people. ;-)
I knew someone would have suggestions for me, and they did! I suspect this may
be only the first of several summaries on the topic, as I've had over 30
messages on the subject in just a couple hours.
Lots of great sounding products were mentioned, and I intend to try a few
ASAP. But I should clarify a little: what I'm really seeking in filled
chocolates, not bars. You know, little rounds or squares with something
delicious inside.

I believe the UK based Cadbury Rose's chocolates are GF (or most of them
are). You could go to cadbury.co.uk to check (they actually have a good GF
statements about their products). I must admit though that although I have
been eating these, I do wonder sometimes whether I have checked into them
thoroughly enough so please research them yourself!

This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but if no one gives you a
specific company name, I suggest you look at this list because it will tell
you what companies generally offer GF candy. So it's probably smart to
start by asking them if they have what you're looking for specifically.

There's a wonderful Belgian chocolatier here in Evanston. When I checked with
them several years ago, I was assured they were gf. The owner (father of the
current owners) was either celiac or allergic to wheat. They are very proud of
the quality of their chocolates, and I've been assured that the sons use the
same techniques their father did.
They don't appear to have a web site, but they will take orders and ship.

oh man - the best chocolate in the WORLD is green and black's milk chocolate.
it's not only the BEST chocolate anywhere, but it's organic, fair trade, and
shade grown. it's just chocolate bars but let me ASSURE you - it's so far
superior to any froofy chococlate, you just can't imagine. you'll never want
any other chocolate again! :)

I enjoy Russell Stovers and Hershey Pot of Gold chocolates without problems.
I always read the ingredients on the box, and of course, never buy a box
with something like crisped rice or chocolate covered pretzels in it.

I am also a GF chocoholic! I think you will find many chocolates that
you eat, especially in NorCal! There are so many varieties and brands
that are way better than See's!
I have done fine with Terra Nostra chocolates available in many fine
grocery stores and health food stores, also Dagoba. They both make bars
in delicious varieties. I eat them all the time and have never had a
reaction. I have not researched them to be certified gluten free,
however, but I am super sensitive. Edward and Sons are certified GF, but
not always the best tasting. I do believe Newman's Own are supposed to
be GF, and also Cloud Nine. I buy tons of chocolates from Whole Foods in
Berkeley, El Cerrito Natural Foods (in El Cerrito), Pharmaca on Solano
Ave. in Berkeley, also Elephant Pharmacy on Shattuck in Berkeley. Their
selections are staggering! Trader Joe's has tons of chocolates and they
have a GF list in their store. You can also check their website. For any
of these brands, just go online to Google, type in the name and look for
the websites. There should be enough info to figure things out from.
Also, Harvest House on Monument Blvd. has tons of GF foods, just enter
Harvest House on Google, you will see their website and info.
Scharffenberger makes super high quality chocolate. You can visit their
plant on Seventh Ave in Emeryville. They give tours! I have asked and I
think they told me everything they make in their home plant is GF, but
there may be a few items that are outsourced, you should ask. This is
super high quality chocolate (better than some European brands)
especially their dark chocolate!
Hershey's website might help you out. I think they have ingredient
info. This listserv has archives with tons of GF info on many mainstream
products, you can look up-also that Halloween list that was just sent.
Hershey's makes some better chocolates these days, and most of them are
GF. I like the "Nuggets" in Special Dark with Almonds. Really good!

As I read your post, it seemed I remembered there was some fine chocolate
makers based in Northern California. On Yahoo up came the name of Scharffen
Berger, based in Berkeley. Good Luck.

Most Ghirardelli chocolate products are GF.
If you have a Target store, they may have the bags of individually
foil-wrapped squares in with their gourmet candies.
The best are the dark chocolate squares filled with peppermint cream.
The next best are the milk chocolate filled with caramel.
Both Ghirardelli.

You just need to come to Australia to live. Cadbury’s Chocolates make a range
of Gluten free chocolates and my 20 yr old daughter did a lot of research to
come up with them. Try the Cadbury site and see what you can do, it is my
favourite choclolate, but then I am an Aussie J. Always ready to help out a
chocoholic..

All you chocolate lovers are going to be thrilled. The toblerone manufacturing
company just got back to me today and I'm excited to spread the news that
Toblerone chocolate is gluten free!! This includes their dark, white truffle,

Well, there are not too many celiac chocolate lovers out there! However of the
7 that replied, 6 have been enjoying Russell Stover chocolates for years (most
replies)!! Only one person had a problem and they were not sure it was
directly attributed to these chocolates. So given this and the company's
positive attestation, I will be enjoying a whole box of chocolate coconut
