The co-existence of type 1 diabetes and celiac disease in both children
and adults has been reported in many studies around the world. The
reported prevalence of CD in type 1 diabetes ranges between 1-10%. I have
written an article on diabetes and celiac disease which can be found at
www.diabetescareguide.com Click on "For Professionals Only" and then
click on Spring 2002 Vol 9 for the complete article.

I reviewed and provided information for a new book for patients and
families called "Managing Diabetes and Celiac Disease... Together". This
50 page book is available from the Canadian Celiac Association at
905-507-6208 or 5170 Dixie Road, Suite 204, Mississauga, Ontario, L4W
1E3 Canada.Email is [log in to unmask] Cost is $13.95(Canadian) plus shipping and
handling. It contains info about celiac disease and diabetes, meal
planning, carbohydrate counting, recipe substitution, sample meal
plans, recipes, etc. Although this is a Canadian publication, Americans
will find this a very helpful book as well.

Gluten Intolerance Group also has a Diabetes and Celiac Disease Resource. Contact GIG at
www.gluten.net
