Hi all,
I am trying hard to remain gluten free (about 34 months now with periodic accidents caused by my ignorance). I am now trying to return to pre-diagnosis pleasures, one of which was dining out. When dining out (if one eats very simply, this can be successful), I enjoy a before dinner drink. I learned that Mike's Hard Lemonade, that I had been drinking this summer, was dangerous. A new factor: wine by the glass, which is generally safe, is becoming more expensive than hard liquor drinks, so of course I considered trying a Martini, Manhattan or a Margarita. The problem is that I don't know which hard liquors are safe. I recogized recently that both vodka and gin are brewed from "grains" as I assumed was the case with both scotch and bourbon. I think rum, tequilla and contreau are safe but am not sure. Labels on liquor bottles are not very informative and web searches are less so. There has been some discussion on the listserv of the belief that the distilling process renders these alcohols gluten free but. . . .
Can anyone help? Please no flaming!
Kathy
