Thank you for your responses! I have passed them on to the member of our
support group who is planning to travel all over Ireland. Madelyn VA

We were in Ireland last fall, and I (the celiac) had absolutely no
problem. Every wait person seemed familiar with celiac, and the chefs,
from
busy full menu upper priced places, to the little village pub, were more
than accommodating. I had some of the best meals I have ever eaten. If
the chance arises, Killybegs, a port in the northwest, has a restaurant
that is outstanding. It is named a number, like 22 I think, not sure.
Meals made off the menu, and the chef is a graduate of one of the fine
culinary arts schools.

We haven't gone yet! So far the news is good though. We will be doing a
bicycle tour in September with Celtic Trails. Their response was "no
problem" as to my inquiries to GF. It is all inclusive so I am hoping it
will go well. I will post when I return, hopefully with rave reviews.

It is my understanding that GF products are readily available in Northern
Europe, plus the Irish have a large population of celiacs-perhaps there is a
support group that could advise your member in detail.

Ireland is extremely aware of Celiac. Most grocery stores have a special
section and most restaurants are willing to prepare you anything
gluten-free. I recently had a wonderful experience there (beginning of
June). I found some delicious cookies at the grocery stores and other great
foods. Don't worry.

There are plenty of GF foods in the supermarkets( TESCO have a range of GF
products of their own as well other foods) and health food stores -
strongly suggest you pick up a supply of GF foods to have at hand
Many restaurants understand GF needs, but in general will have to search
menus for GF items - quiz the waiters etc
If also lactose intolerant be careful - as many restaurants dress the
veggies with butter - they love their butter in Ireland
If you can eat oatmeal - McCann's is sold under the name of Odlums in
Ireland and in all supermarkets
Ireland has the highest per capita of Celiacs !! hence very receptive to our
needs
If in south side of Dublin check out Rolys - know plenty about celiacs as
the chef is one of us.
