I recently had occasion to be in the hospital for a few days (not CD
related) and ahead of time I talked to the director of nutrition services
who said they were familiar with the gluten-free diet and could
accommodate me. However, I had a nightmare of frustrating experiences -
all my meals had to be returned (some more than once). I was served cream
of wheat, hamburger on wheat bun, scrambled eggs with an English muffin
sitting on top of it, etc. They had even made a note that a supervisor
was to check the tray, but obviously no one had. Needless to say I was on
the phone to food services daily. Short of bringing in our own food, are
there any helpful suggestions that could help when faced with a hospital
stay? Thank you in advance.
