What is paper? *GRIN*

Sure, CDs may not be forever, but I would trust data to them before I
would trust data to a floppy disk. Everything will degrade over time.
More things can degrade a floppy than a CD though. Also, floppy drives
are becoming more and more scarce on new machines. Eventually, so will CD
ROM drives. I honestly don't know, but I wonder what the longevity of
Compact Flash is on static data.

For a lot of things I just depend on the provider of the service to store
my data. All my utility bills can be had from the web sites of my utility
companies.

I guess in the end it just depends on how paranoid you are or how
sensitive the data is. Keep the stuff on your hard drive and make sure
you do regular back-ups to CD. Get yourself a second hard drive and
mirror the first so that you can survive a drive failure. Get yourself
five cheap drives and RAID them together, then back-up to CD.

You could always keep everything on the hard drive and print out copies on
paper to keep in your fire proof safe. Oh wait. What am I saying.
