Hello, listers,
A friend of mine just excepted a teaching position in Ghana to teach 12
recently admitted students who are blind to Wesley College and she is
looking for equipment to take with her. Here is her message and if you
could help her, or should I say, her students since the equipment is for
them, it would be greatly appreciated because they have very little interms
of resources.
Hello,
I am a TBVI in NJ. I will be moving to Ghana in Sept. to teach 12 recently
admitted students who are blind to Wesley College. The school has
absolutely
no materials for the students, and no money. I will be setting up a resource
room and adapting their math/science courses. Currently, they only have
slate
and styluses, which they use to take all of their class notes. I am trying
to drum up support for equipment donations. I'd greatly appreciate it, and
more importantly, the students would too. Whatever equipment they receive
they would
take with them to their new teaching assignments. Please let me know. (see
below for more info.
Thanks, Wendy
Donations Wanted: College in Ghana desperately needs 13 braille writers.
Last Oct. (for the first time ever) Wesley College admitted 5 students who
are
blind into their teacher-training school, and the College plans on admitting
7 more this year! In Sept., I will be adapting materials for the math and
science courses (they have not yet participated in these subjects) teaching
the Nemeth code, and hopefully teaching a computer class. However, they
have
no braille writers (they are all using slate and styluses). Nemeth and
science textbooks, talking calculators, a braille dictionary (if a screen
reader is not available)
math tools for the blind, screen reader such as Jaws or Windows Eyes,
Kurzweil or open book, a tactile image machine (and paper) and an embosser
are also needed. If you’d like to kindly donate, please
call Wendy ASAP: 201-918-1448 Your donation would definitely be put to use.
