In my experience, Win98 (original or "first edition") does not support USB 2.0,
however; with the proper drivers for the device(s), Windows 98 SE does.
I have a client who is now using an Iomega external USB 2.0 CD-RW drive
for his dental software backup solution. (He transports his data between his
two offices to keep patient data up-to-date on both of his HP Pavilions.) In
his one office, the device (and the needed USB 2.0 card) could not be
installed and made to run under the Win98 OS--original edition. Win98 SE
on his second, newer office machine accommodated the USB 2.0 card, drivers,
and the external drive.
