Max, can you tell me just exactly what societies you are referring to when
you say that milk+meat=health? I realize there is a debate raging nowadays
between proponents of the high-protein Zone diet and the Dean Ornish
high-carb school of thought. However, everything I've read about scientific
analysis of ancient man's diet says they were primarily plant eaters with a
bit of meat thrown in. They draw this conclusion from an analysis of human
teeth, which tend more toward the plant-eater's grinding molars and less
toward the carnivore's sharp inscisors (sp?). Conclusion: you not only are
what you eat, you are built to eat what your body needs.
I can't argue that additives, hormones, refined carbs and sugars and lack of
exercise aren't compromising modern man's health, but based on forensic
evidence I don't think encouraging high meat consumption is the answer
either. I feel there is too much evidence linking high protein to heart
disease, which a lot of protein devotees are going to discover for
themselves in 30-40 years, much to their regret.
That said, I'm not a scientist, so I'd welcome comments from someone who is,
as well as others struggling with this issue. Anyone?
