--------------------------------------------------------------------------
First of all i would like to register my sincere apprecaition for the NADD
exceutive taking the most fundamental step to nominate a flag bearer in
spirit of self actualisation as a poltical party. This is the actual move
that Gambian at home and in the diaspora are looking forward to. However,
this is not definately the worst but the results as it stand is not the
best for the Gambia and the Gambian.
My argument is base on the fact that this would be the replicate of the
former regime that has plugged the the Gambia in the present situation.
In my view and frankly am stand to be corrected present circumstances
doesn't permit the chores of the former regime to lead again. Well there
are out of office for almost 12 years doesn't guarantee the fact that
their will be changes in the system of adminstration and management of the
affairs of the Gambian people. Although, it is a caolation but the
constitutional progressive remain as the binding principle that has to
prevail in the day to day adminstration of the country. This i mean that
the President of the Republic has the absolute power in crucial decisions
to be taken.
In addition i question how paticipartory this decision was. From narrow
perspective those who nominate the nominees are the representative of the
wider Gambian population. Invariably, looking at sensitive nature and how
fragile the politically landscape of the caolition as party potray needs
active participation of larger Gambian population in this importatnt
decision. Gambia as a nation and NADD as a redeemer as most people
percive it to be should not limit or confide such important decision to
few indiviuals. The modern world is moving from top-down to bottom-up
approach in the context of powering the beneficiaries (The Gambia at grass
root level) to be actively in involved in their day to day development
process, which the politically culture play an important place. In my
view i first question how democtratic and paticipartoy NADD as political
institution is? Reflecting on the Memorandum Standing it has been
indicated that the present Gambia is undemonctratic, Rule of Law is not
respected, and host of others factors that should gives descent politically
and economic development of its citizens are the major cornerstones. In
this spirit NADD has come to restore better deomcratic culture, better
Rule of Law and good Governace, but the question remains this is the way
to achieve it. In critically looking at the process of this nomination is
a clear manfestation that NADD has a heavy weight political player in the
Gambia has profound flush in the all set up in this move as first step.
In reflectiing on the politcal activities around the world and in major
democratic nations such as Britain and in the USA grass root electorate
are actively involve in similar important decision of the party. Well i
do not what to pre-empty the fact that most people are expecting primary
selection at grass root level in order reflect the needs and desire of the
people.
I would like to put NADD that it will be never too late as at now for them
to go back to the drawing board to revisit their process in order to come
out with sustainial, constructive and desirable process for the betterment
of NADD as a politcal party and the Gambia as nation come October 2006
presidential election. I want to remind the readers that am not
personally against OJ but am against the process of the out come of the
decision, which is not definately participatory.
On the issue of indiviual nominees i salute Darboe and OJ for their
steadfastness to take such responsibilty of the nation. On the other hand
Halifa has dissapointed the Gambian people for declining his candidature
to such important responsibility, which has shown actual limitation of him
as being. Halifa should agreed to the fact that Gambian needs his
services at this important position of the nation. Gambian more so in the
diaspora are arguing that Yahya and the collegues are not educated and
this has limited and consequently reflected on his administration and
management style. Well i belief that Gambia needs educated and dynamic
leadership either from the political circle or outside.
In conclusion i open this forum for constructive and objective argument
not argument base on subjectively. Though all of us are entitle to our
various opinions but let contribute constructively for the good of the
Gambia people.
Finally i would like to thank the editor and his team and the wider reader
community in the participation of our dear Motherland Gambia political
forum. Well i was using sanyang's email box.
