Ken,

(I hope you are reading this Saturday or Sunday).

The constitutional scenario is exactly how it would play out, as there
is no provision for a run-off in the US Constitution. I think that's
one reason the framers made it so difficult for a tie to occur. It's
also one reason that a multiparty system is not likely in the US. In
that case, a candidate with (theoretically) 33.7 percent of the vote or
less, depending on the number of minor party candidates that make the
ballot in large states could be president, and then there'd be a hell of
a lot of screaming. There could possibly be a candidate elected that
didn't even qualify for the general election ballot in some states.

Deri, and the rest of you UKers, is it uncomfortable when you have a PM
who doesn't have the support of a plurality of the voters?

I know European Parliamentary democracies have done it for years, but I
personally don't think the present American electorate could deal with
that kind of a change.

Kendall Corbett

An unreasonable man (but my wife says that's redundant!)

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one
persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all
progress depends on the unreasonable man.

goes on.

okay guys, my hands are sore and i am not going to
type all night.
i AM NOT doubting the inncident of the teachers being
ousted.
WHAT I DOUBT IS THAT THE PERSON WRITING THE LETTER IS
ANYTHING BUT A LEFT WINGER.
i used the analogy of a fake bill. the way to tell a
fake bill is to recognize a real one very well.
this guy started out with a litteny of things to
convience us that he is not a lefty. by the time i
read about his lifelong republican, registered
republican, conservative, strict constitutionalist, on
and on ad nausiam, i was 90% sure that i was reading
the start of a left wing proproganda piece. more on
his litteny later. a conservative with problems with
another conservative noprmally just says it. i
have/had a problem with bush letting ted kennedy write
most of the no child left behind bill. i have/had a
problem with bush not fighting to get that hispanic
nominee thrugh the senate and into the court. i
have/had a problem with bush not fighting to get that
black woman nominee thrugh the senate and into the
court. i had a problem with the dems being given such
and easy time of filabustering these people. i do not
have to convience anyone of my political leanings.
real conservatives just say what their probems are.
then this "true conservative" spoke of the police
being "nasi's up" can't even construct a senance.
conservatives don't compare athoritys to nazis
normally. that is almost exclusively a left wing
tactic. dumbas it is since nazis were a splinter off
the german socialist party (as in left not right). he
later compared something else to being facist.
i could point out other things too, but, i hope you do
not make me type more.
the incident happened, but, this guy is no
disappointed republican. he is as left as they come.
some of you are left wing, but, you guys are not
trying to convience me that you are disturbed right
wingers. so you are genuine. this guy is bogus as a 3
dollar bill.
thank you all for considering my rantings.
