That's very true, Mag. I've been writing HRIS manuals for my department and
can tell you it's a lot different from writing an article about disability or
a short story. The first thing a writer has to consider is exactly what he's
going to write. The second is his audience. Once the first two are
determined, then the question remains - is their a market for the published
work?

A short update - I have been doing a lot of travelling to our facilities in
South Carolina and Arkansas, working with the HR departments to train them in
the HRIS data entry and to make sure they understand how to do things. I've
gained a new respect for teachers; I don't know how they do it and keep their
patience as well as their sanity! I've also re-written our manuals to be
more targeted towards local needs rather than general, corporate-wide needs.
I have survived another round of redundancies. I'm beginning to feel a bit
battle-weary after dealing with this for 15 years now. I don't have the
energy to write too many emails during my off-times right now. :(

A really cool side-note: We are in the midst of building renovations at my
office, and they have torn up the manmade lake on the property, dislodging
the Canadian Geese who have roosted there during their migrations. (a new
lake is to be built, further away from the road). Well, the other day I
noticed a couple of geese waddling next to the building, and yesterday I saw
that one of them was lying in one of the flowerbeds! Apparently they built a
nest in the flowerbed and are fending off any 'intruders.' When I left to go
home last night, I noticed Security had put up some traffic cones to keep
people away from the nest, which I thought was very cool. :)
