This reply hit the nail on the head! (I am 44. Arthritis runs in my
mother's family. I don't consume dairy either, so I know I should be
more vigilant about supplements. I work at a computer all day.)
"I see that you are prone when this sensation occurs. I assume it is
in the back of your neck where your head sits on your spine. If it you
note it when you move your head, and if you are 40 or older, it is
probably calcification of the neck joint vertebrae, called the axis and
the atlas. Ask your masseuse about this. Most of us above 50 have a
similar sensation with head movement which tends to come and go and
which is due to arthritic changes in the spine. Plenty of calcium /vit
D and glucosamine/MSM is the best remedy I have found."
Several replies suggested heart burn or gastric reflux. (" I find that
sleeping on my left side and not eating before bed helps it. You
probably experience pain with this as well.") Which could apply to
others, but, for me, the sensation is not in that particular area.

Recommended supplement:
"Need to root gluten out of your diet. In the meantime, take the
homeopathic remedy Veratrum Alb 30c..2 pills under the tongue. If that
works, then be sure you are reacting to gluten."
