I'm hoping someone on this list can provide me with some suggestions. I am
a celiac, as is my mother, and my sister displays many of the symptoms
associated with CD. However, her tranglutaminase test came back negative
and her endoscopy was normal, although it noted duodenal inflammation.
We're concerned about the validity of the tests, given that the blood test
was read at Hunter Services Lab in Campbell, CA, and not one of the
facilities approved for that test. Also, we can't find out whether a GI
specialist looked at her biopsies--the hospital (Community Hosp. of Los
Gatos) is being less than forthcoming. Her gastroenterologist is out of
town for the month and hasn't seen the test results. (Her PCP actually gave
her the news.)
She contacted Dr. Fasano's office about having her tests reread, but they
said they won't do it unless she's a patient, which isn't an option, as she
lives in California. Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do next?
She's seen a number of doctors and none of them can find anything wrong
with her--something we've all heard, I'm sure. She's in a lot of pain and
it's very important that we sort this out. Hopefully, with your help, we'll
be able to do so before the end of the month, when her GI doc returns.
Thanks,
Julie in PA
