Based on some quick research, the Gateway 2000 uses PC 133 SDRAM 168 pin
RAM. DDR is 184 pin RAM. Not only would DDR memory not fit in your computer,
the operating architecture is different and your motherboard & BIOS would
not handle it. You can purchase a 512MB stick of PC 133 SDRAM for about $70.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Upgrading computer DDR and SDR ram
Hello,
I am updating a Gateway 2000 with a G6-266M Tower and a windows 98 operating
system to windows XP. In order to do it I have to add more Ram, I know that
SDR ram can not be used on new computers, but can DDr ram be used on old
computers.
If i buy a 512mb stick of ddr ram for this gateway will it work?
